Equipment

Evident Vanta C Series X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Analyzer

An XRF gun, or X-ray Fluorescence gun, is a handheld device used for non-destructive elemental analysis of materials. It works by emitting X-rays onto a sample material, which causes the atoms in the sample to become excited and emit characteristic X-ray fluorescence.

The XRF gun detects and measures these emitted X-rays to determine the elemental composition of the material. It can identify elements ranging from magnesium to uranium, providing qualitative and quantitative analysis of the material’s elemental composition. Our equipment has an extensive alloy & grade library including stainless steel, aluminum, nickel, copper and high or low alloy products.

Clark CR-1 Hardness tester for hardness verification (A/B/C Scale)

The Clark CR-1 Hardness Tester is a device used to measure the hardness of materials. It operates based on the principle of indentation hardness testing, where a specified force is applied to an indenter and the depth or size of the resulting indentation is measured.

The CR-1 model is capable of measuring hardness using three different scales: A, B, and C. These scales correspond to different types of materials and testing methods:

  • A Scale: This scale is commonly used for soft materials, such as aluminum, brass, and other non-ferrous metals.
  • B Scale: The B scale is used for harder materials, including harder non-ferrous metals and some harder plastics.
  • C Scale: This scale is primarily used for ferrous metals, such as steel and cast iron.

The Clark CR-1 Hardness Tester provides a convenient solution for measuring material hardness in various industrial applications, including quality control, manufacturing, and engineering.

Other Services

By coordinating with certified testing facilities, we can also help provide additional material testing services such as:

  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Includes methods like ultrasonic testing (UT Testing) to detect defects without damaging the metal.
  • Charpy test: also known as the Charpy V-notch (CVN) test, is a standardized method used to measure a material’s toughness or impact resistance
  • Tensile Testing: Determines the metal’s strength and elasticity by subjecting it to tension until it breaks.
  • Chemical Analysis: Determines the elemental composition of the metal, ensuring it meets required specifications.

Great Lakes Specialty Metals also has trusted partners for many other material testing services. Contact our team today to learn more about how Great Lakes Specialty Metals can help with your next project.
